Description

Fed up with the laborious slow job of radius block and sand paper to radius a Fretboard?

Using these router bits you can radius a fretboard/fingerboard in seconds!

The carbide tips are the extra hard a fine K01 carbide specifically for use with extra hard woods used for fretboard/Fingerboard – such as rosewood or ebony.

The bits are precision machined to provide an incredibly accurate radius.

The radius cutting section of the bit is 50mm (~2″) so you can radius a 100mm (~4″) wide blank without an issue.

Adding a radius to the fretboard There are many ways to do this. I prefer using a custom radiused router bit. I got this one from SJE Tools in Australia, but similar bits are now available on Amazon as well. These come in many different radiuses, this one is a 10″ are I’ve had it for years. It has lasted for so long, and I have never needed to sharpen it.  It’s best to attach the fretboard to a 90 degree surface so you can keep the piece flat to the fence on the router table. This is a 2″ aluminum angle you can pick up at most home improvement stores. I attach the fretboard to the angle with double sided tape.  I’ll basically make 2 passes with this bit putting the radius on the fretboard from the center to the edge. So I’ll line the top of the bit up with the center line, and aligning the top with the edge of my fence. The first pass is pretty straight forward, but on the second pass, I need to extend the fence a bit to compensate for the top edge of the fretboard as the newly radiused fretboard edge could easily get pushed into the bit creating a gouge and ruining the piece.  Once both sides are finished, I can cut the ends off and I’m ready for fret slotting. #swisherguitars #guitars #guitarbuilding #luthier #guitarmaker #luthiery #guitarmaking #luthiers #guitar #electricguitar #woodworking #customguitars #fyp #guitarbuilder
